Tiger Takes Torrey Pines

Tiger Woods bested the field at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines to win the tournament for the seventh time in his career. That was not the only milestone for Woods, however, as the victory also marked the 75th time he has won a PGA Tour event.
While the 37-year-old has struggled to close out tournaments in recent years, he finished strong in San Diego. Despite a one-day delay due to fog, there was never much doubt that he was going to come out on top.
Woods eagled the 18th hole in Round 2 to finish seven strokes under par for the day. He sat atop the leaderboard at the halfway mark of the competition and never looked back.
In the final round, Woods cruised through the course with the exception of a few slip-ups on the final holes. But by then, his lead was already insurmountable.
Brandt Snedeker and Nick Watney were given the unenviable task of trying to close the sizable gap between Woods and the field, and were unable to gain any ground. Snedeker kept pace and finished in a tie for second with Josh Teater, while Watney dropped into a tie for fourth with Jimmy Walker.

Highlights
What's better than a spectacular shot from Tiger Woods? How about two of them?
On the fourth hole, Woods was in deep trouble behind a tree, but pulled off the impossible. He adjusted his swing to curl his ball around a tree, finishing just short of the green. He would go on to chip-in and birdie the hole.
Woods worked himself into a jam again on the ninth hole after a poor drive. Once again caught behind a tree with low-hanging branches, Woods fired his ball under the tree back to the middle of the fairway.
The 11th hole brought more fireworks from Woods. This shot set up another par and helped him maintain his comfortable lead over the field.

Final Thoughts
Though his driver was errant at times, what distinguished Woods at Torrey Pines was his ability to minimize mistakes. His creativity, stamina and wide-ranging experience allowed to him pull off the clutch shots he needed to seal the victory.
The most exciting aspect of this win is what it portends for Tiger's future. After five of his last six victories at the Farmers, he went on to win a major championship.
