Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods Film Nike Commercial Together
An official announcement has yet to be made, but it is being reported that RoryMcIlroy has not only signed with Nike but has already filmed a commercial with none other than Tiger Woods, which is scheduled to debut next year.
Foxsports.com has reported that McIlroy and Nike have agreed to a deal worth at least $200 million and possibly as much as $250 million.
As neither Nike nor McIlroy have officially announced their partnership, this deal would still fall under the “speculation” category. However, if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, more often than not it’s a duck.
If we are looking at a duck here, depending upon how McIlroy’s career plays out, Nike golf could become the first modern-day equipment company to truly bridge the greatest player of one generation with the greatest player of the next generation.
And if the terms of the $200 - $250 million deal being reported are accurate, McIlroycould very well become Nike Golf’s highest paid athlete.
Woods was thought to have earned as much as $35 million per year from Nike during his heyday, but most believe Woods’ post-fire hydrant deal with Nike is netting him far less than he enjoyed during his prime.
Needless to say, if the latest reports are true, McIlroy has essentially set himself up for life financially with one stroke of the pen. The only question that remains is whether or not using equipment that most of the golf industry views as inferior to the more established brands will have a detrimental effect on his game moving forward.
Welcome to the big time Mr. McIlroy.
