Texas A&M Football: Breaking Down Aggies' New Uniforms

While the No. 16 Texas A&M Aggies are well known for their maroon and white uniforms, the team will be unveiling a new black alternate version of their jersey made by adidas, according to the university’s official Twitter account.
The craze over the blackout uniforms has swept the nation, and along with some help from adidas, Texas A&M now has one of the cooler looks out there.
Maroon and black is already a strong color scheme on the pants and jerseys, but it is the paint job on the helmets that makes this one of the better uniforms of the year.
Even if you don’t have a horse in the Texas A&M versus No. 15 Mississippi State Bulldogs battle Saturday, you have to tune in to see how these new uniforms come across on TV.

"Wow" Factor: 8 out of 10
While the change of uniform for any program that has been with the same color for as long as Texas A&M has been using maroon and white causes a serious "wow" factor, you have to see it several times to determine how much the awe wears off over time.
The all-black uniform is great, but Texas A&M's isn’t the best we’ve seen so far when it comes to college football’s “blackout” uniform designs.
The Aggies have one of the best accent colors for the black uniforms in maroon, but the alternate color has been relegated to the collar and a single stripe down the arm and leg. What saves this idea is the helmet, though.

Not only has the addition of the white outline of the state of Texas to the traditional A&M logo made it pop, the color scheme of the helmet makes this one of the most unique combinations in college football.
Unlike most traditional blackout uniforms, the Texas A&M helmet is a high gloss that will shine in the sun. Additionally, the paint itself is metal flake and will sparkle under the natural light.
The coolest part of the design is the subtle fade from the traditional maroon to the black upper portion of the helmet. While it will remain to be seen if the TV cameras can pick up the subtle paint difference, this should open up several great designs for A&M apparel.

There is no question that black uniforms are a fun way to get students and athletes excited about the team and the university, but we have seen some mediocre designs. Texas A&M got this one right, though.
While the uniform itself could have utilized the school’s unique color scheme a bit better, the helmet design and the unique paint job seen more often on hot rods than helmets makes them pop.
If the school realizes how great the fading colors look together—especially maroon and black—this could open the door for more interesting uniform concepts using the fading colors scheme.
