Anna Burns Welker apologizes for comments about Ray Lewis
Like all of the other friends, family and fans of the New England Patriots, Wes Welker’s wife was frustrated with the outcome of the AFC Championship Game on Sunday night. Earlier, we shared with you some comments Anna Burns Welker made on her Facebook page about Ray Lewis after the Baltimore Ravens beat the Patriots 28-13 in Foxboro.
On Monday afternoon, Burns apologized for what she said about the Ravens linebacker.
“I’m deeply sorry for my recent post on Facebook,” Burns told Larry Brown Sports in a statement. “I let the competitiveness of the game and the comments people were making about a team I dearly love get the best of me. My actions were emotional and irrational and I sincerely apologize to Ray Lewis and anyone affected by my comment after yesterday’s game.
“It is such an accomplishment for any team to make it to the NFL playoffs, and the momentary frustration I felt should not overshadow the accomplishments of both of these amazing teams.”
We saw the type of backlash that arose when Gisele Bundchen made some derogatory comments after the Super Bowl last year. While we tend to agree with Burns that Lewis is a poster boy for the NFL despite not being a great role model, you can understand why she felt the need to clear the air.
