Hofstra Basketball Players Arrested, Accused of Stealing from Their Head Coach

Four Hofstra basketball players have been arrested on charges of burglary. One of the more amazing facts of the evolving story is one of the victims is reportedly their own head coach. 

The New York Post reports Kentrell Washington, 18, of Las Vegas, Jimmy Hall, 18, of New York City, Dallas Anglin, 18, of Montclair, N.J., and Shaquille Stokes, 20, of New York City, were all arrested on Friday and are now awaiting arraignment.

This might mean possessions stolen from coach earlier in the season had no relation to the current thefts.

Several break-ins and thefts have been reported across campus since early October. Mo Cassara, the team's head coach since May 2010, told the cops that he had an iPad, iPhone, cash and credit cards stolen prior to the beginning of the semester, according to this Newsday article.

We will give the four young men their day in court before all-out blasting them for such actions that, if true, are a complete and utter showing of disrespect to the school and a man who tried to lead them on and off the court. 

But things certainly don't look good for these four young men.

For the moment, the school has taken swift action, suspending the four from any basketball activities, classes and use of residence halls or other campus facilities. 

Six "unlocked dorm rooms" were broken into between Oct. 4 and Nov. 5, with computers, cash and other items reportedly taken. 

The Newsday report cites the following charges for the young men: 

Stokes was charged with five counts of second-degree burglary; Washington was charged with two counts of second-degree burglary; Hall was charged with four counts of second-degree burglary; and Anglin was charged with one count of second-degree burglary and one count of tampering with physical evidence.

The team will play out a busy December schedule without the services of Stokes, who averages 10 points per game, Hall, who is the team's second-leading scorer with 12.7 points per game, or two of its bench players in Anglin and Washington. 

What's more, this has to be a tremendous blow to morale. 

The team is off to a 3-4 start and is no doubt trying to come together for some semblance of harmony and turn the season around. Before the season gets going, the head coach is robbed, and now a good portion of the team has been arrested for the crime.

This comes on the heels of a report in early October that Cassara had to suspend Jamal Coombs-McDaniel and Taran Buie for two games for what was reported to be a "violation of team rules."

Both have returned to the roster, but Coombs-McDaniel has not logged any minutes due to injury. 

Whether the players are found guilty for all the crimes or not, there's no denying that the Hofstra basketball team is steeped in turmoil.
